Structo probably made more garbage truck toys than anybody in the 1950s and '60s, and this is a good one. No rust. Paint is showing some age and alligatoring on the roof and hood, and there are typical scratches and small creases from moderate play wear. The windshield is very good, but does have one small crack near the passenger side door pillar. Structo Hydraulic decal is pretty good on the driver side, but only remnants remain on the passenger side. Tailgate (behind the bucket) shows the most wear and surface blemishes.
The noise maker on the front axle does not work, seems a gear has come loose. Unfortunately, it causes the front axle to bind, so the truck does not roll very freely. I'm sure this can be fixed, and if I get around to it, the price will increase by about 25 bucks. Tires and wheels are excellent.
The Hydraulic Cylinder lifts the bed nice and slowly as it should. Usually these are worn out, and spring back way too strong. Not this one. Interesting to note, too, that the rear bucket is MANUALLY raised (kid powered), and not raised with a lever like the earlier Structos were.
Overall a VERY NICE example of a classic garbage truck toy. Would look nice in the front office of a garbage hauling company.
The Structo Hydraulic Garbage Truck measures 18" long, 5.5" wide and 7.75" tall with the bucket down. Weighs in at 4 lbs 13 oz.
